Last night, Campus Love organized a excursion to Baiyun Mountain. I took part in the gathering as a newcomer, and most enjoyed it.

The weather seemed not in good mood in Saturday, never revealing its bright sunny face, being grum all day, and threatening to interrupt with its heavy dropping. Fortunately it didn’t.

Arrived at the gate a little later than the due time, found about twenty guys already there waiting. Knew none the guys, standing beside and watching after registration. The one that no one could not recognize was 1.93 meter Sunny. He is, as one of the guys said, our outstanding character; and organizers made a well preparation with walkie-talkies and many others things to make sure it would be an enjoyable and safe journey. They had done a lot.

Soon after we were divided into several groups, staring climbing. Antibody of Love showed up himself with his amazing voice during the ascending, which make much a fun and bought lots of laughter. Then we went to Peach Gully, playing the matching game on a clearing. It was so funny! Finally only one couple was made up, Cold Sun and Antibody of Love.

Having supper after the game, we went on our excursion. We walked, talked, making fun all the way to the peak. However, tire and dark forced us to give up the original plan to the MoXingLing. That was a pity.

Twenty guys crammed in a van, and went to the Rich’s Bar. Thus the first part of the activity was ended, began the second part of the night.

The second part was so wonderful as the first one. Drinking, laughing, talking, dancing, we all enjoyed ourselves. That was not the end of the night; the third part, overnight karaoke, was waiting. But tiredness took me, and I had to take an early leave. (Friends who went on the night write something about the karaoke, I believed it must be full of fun too,)

Thanks for the webmasters and other friends’ selfless efforts and precious time to bring the gathering. Hope there would be more healthy and enjoyable and happy activities like it after.

P.S In response of our webmasters’ calling at ECCL, contribute this small article. It is hard to write in another tongue, done it with great difficulty.

You are right. You have the opportunity to use it and treat it as youself. But i'm not. It is said that,in China, nearly all the middle school students are major in maths and nearly all the university students are major in English. So,in many conditions English is the thing I have to use it not the thing I would like to use it.

It is not easy to speak or write in a language other than one's native tongue, you have done a very good job.  It takes practice to perfect one's speech and writing in English.  Your courage and commitment revealed through this short article are the first step towards improvements.  I wish you and other people could actively participate in English poses at GZTZ.  As for myself, I enjoy typing Chinese, but writing in English is much faster for me.  It was a long process for me to perfect my English little by little even being steeped in an English environment.  I am still learning to better craft my writing every day.  Keep up the good work and I would try my best to help if anyone would like to practice.

First of all, please allow me to thank you for your interest… I hope I will not be the only one contributing my story here; otherwise, I would feel quite odd and nervous.      Since I am quite new here anyway, I thought it would be beneficial to share my stories with other people.  In return, I hope people could get to know me a little bit better and could also tell me their stories…

It’s difficult to pick a point in the course of my life so far and start telling stories… I guess what I will do is that I will pick a topic in each posting so that it will have a little bit more substance on a particular topic in each post.

Hmmmm… let’s start with my “Immigration Chapter” since I think it is one of the most significant events happened in my life that has cast the most impact on me thus far.

I was born and raised in Canton, more specifically, I had lived all my childhood in the Hai-zhu District—first on Qian Jing Road and then moved to Jiang Nan Da Dao.  I was fortunate that I did quite well in school and maintaining a good score had never been huge a problem for me.  This allowed my parents to give me a lot freedom (which I think eventually made me quite comfortable about my sexuality all along… I will talk about that later).  I was in the Guangzhou No.6 Middle School for junior and senior high school.  I immigrated with my family when I was seventeen, which made me quite happy because I was able to escape from the disastrous College Entrance exam.

My family settled down in a suburb community outside of Los Angeles, which marked the beginning of the two most awful years in my life.  The U.S. is quite a suburb country—mostly as a direct result of the suburbanization movement in the 1960s encouraged by the creation of the Interstate freeway system and the post-war domestic prosperity and social tranquility.  Anyway, my life was pretty much restricted because transportation in suburbs primarily relied on automobiles.  As a high school student, I didn’t have a car and bicycle was the only means for me to get around.  Because of this, my life was pretty much restricted along the way between my school and my home unless I could get a ride from the adults.

If being bound by the limited ability to travel far was devastating, being in a terrible high school certainly worsened the situation.  The public high school system in the U.S. was quite disappointing.  I went to a relatively small high school with only about 1,000 students for four grades combined (Grades 9 to 12).  Some bigger high schools would have more than 1,000 students for just one grade.

Anyhow, the academic was quite unchallenging, mainly the stuff many of us have learned in Junior I or Junior II.  Indulged in a culture of cartoons, video games and burgers, most of the students in that school were not motivated at all.  Being able to obtain a high school diploma was the ultimate goal for many.  Even for the few ambitious ones, their academic foundation was not firmly established due to the poor public school system.  Many teachers couldn’t care less about their students since they were not motivated anyway.  Also, public school teachers in the U.S. would usually need to teach 4 to 5 classes every day and would only have one to two class-time for themselves to prepare for classes, quizzes or grade their students’ homework.  Given that workload, it was not surprising to see that many teachers did not even try to get personal with the students.

Nevertheless, the new found freedom I got in class was something deserved to be celebrated.  The Chinese education system emphasized too much about developing skills for tests while ignoring the
